Everyone knows the things that are holding them in bondage, whether it is sex, drugs, or the “simple” secrets we keep. Jesus wants us to give it up; he wants to break the chains we choose to clasp ourselves to. If we were all honest enough, I believe we would say…”Even if pastors weren’t here to tell me or the bible didn’t state that what I’m clinging to is wrong…I would still know. The emptiness that I feel is enough to let me know.” I think we would all agree that there is something calling us higher.

The fact of this matter is that we find comfort in our sins, we might hate ourselves afterwards or even the whole time we are doing it but we go back because we know it. We all feel a pull…a call to do something different, something unknown, but we are afraid. Instead we conform to the actions of a broken society and complain about how everyone is corrupt, yet we follow.

God calls us out of our so called comfort and makes us trust the fear we feel. Even if we don’t want to admit it we all want something more and we all know seeking something more is somehow scary and not normal. While everyone else puts on their best face, goes out, and lies to themselves about what makes them happy…fear calls us to take off our mask and admit that we have an ache in our soul for something so much more…real.
